The many architectural sights are a great place to start, some of the finest buildings in Europe stand in the City of Bath; the Royal Crescent, the Circus, Pulteney Bridge – to name but a few. The Roman’s certainly left their mark on the City too, building the Roman Baths and many spas, which are famous across the world and well worth a look. Other attractions of historical significance include; the Herschel Museum of Astronomy, Bath Abbey, the Fashion Museum, and the Jane Austen Centre – a tribute to perhaps the city’s most famous resident.

There’s also plenty for the family to do too, steam through the countryside on the Avon Valley railway’s restored steam train, or try your hand at go-carting on the 350m track. For even more outdoors adventure, you can take the kids to see the animals; Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park is just a short car journey away, as is the famous Longleat Safari Park, where lions and tigers roam through the undergrowth. Animal lovers can also meet and feed rescued horses, ponies and donkeys at Horseworld, just outside of Bath.

If a little more adrenaline is what you’re after, the Bath Racecourse is situated on Lansdown Hill, overlooking the city, offering fantastic views and hopefully some gamblers luck! There are also some more alternative attractions to be found in the area, more for the grown-ups than the little ones, but still fun to be had at Quoins Vineyard, where you can taste the finished product after taking a guided tour. Any one of Bath’s theatres or comedy venues can be part of a relaxed, enjoyable evening. Have a night out at the live arts and entertainment venue Komedia, in central Bath, or take a stroll down the street to the Ustinov Theatre, where cutting edge drama, comedy and music is on show.

Whatever your preference – and whoever you’re travelling with, there’s something for you to take part in when you visit Bath, with numerous pursuits, both outdoor and indoor, you won’t be stuck watching the time tick away, and you might even learn something about the UK’s colourful history while you’re there.
